Hello!

I am an artist utilizing stoneware and porcelain clay bodies for creating a hybrid combination of functional and sculptural work that references the human figure in relation to the ceramic vessel. Visual contrast is central to my work, which I articulate through the frequent use of black and white tones along the grayscale spectrum as well as surface texture contrast through glaze activation. My work involves wheel-thrown functional forms like vases and bowls in which I edit by sculpting distinctive human features such as expressive faces, feet, and hands onto them. These sculptural elements are deeply influenced by my own engagement in the creation process. I consciously consider how to incorporate my physical presence into my pots through the act of sculpting. This approach is also something I think of to be reflective of my relationship with each piece. Each piece is made with a clay body and glaze that I crafted myself. I find that the interaction between my hands and each of my clay bodies is both vital and inspirational to my artistic process. Touch as an artistic theory is one that I believe is most present in ceramic making and an essential part of my practice. Through touch, I am given the freedom to experience the clay as a material and use it to guide me in bringing each of my pieces to life.
